Reportedly, before the South Florence High School graduation began, school officials warned the audience that anyone who cheered or screamed would be escorted out of the building. Police also allegedly made it clear that those individuals who did get escorted out of the building would be cuffed and charged with disorderly conduct.
Watch the graduation incident here:
Iesha, who didn’t know that anything was going on with her mom, found out about the arrest through friends, “They’re locking your momma up for cheering – and I was like that isn’t right because other people was cheering and they didn’t lock them up,” said Iesha.
Cooper says after she was escorted out of the building and held up in a van for 45 minutes. Afterward, she was transported to the Florence County Detention Center as daughter reportedly cried hysterically on graduation day.
After being booked at the detention center and held for several hours, a $225 bond was posted and Cooper was released.
What should have been one of the most joyous days of her life turned out to be a nightmare for Iesha. “Yesterday can’t be replaced. I’m gonna remember. She gonna remember for the rest of her life. My mama went to jail on my graduation day,” laments Iesha.
Luckily, Cooper and her graduate did wind up celebrating the momentous occasion with a family BBQ and cake later on.
