Gardaí appeal for witnesses following collision in Westmeath

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Westmeath this afternoon which has left a man seriously injured.

The man, in his thirties, was helping to push a broken down car in the hard shoulder of the M6 when he was struck by a passing eastbound lorry .

It happened between Junction 5 at Kilbeggan and Junction 4 at Tyrrellspass at about half two this afternoon.

The victim is being treated at Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
